How can I qualify for the programme?

You must be a native English speaker between 18 and 70 years old and have completed high school. You must have Basic English language conversation skills. Some projects require minimum intermediate level of Spanish.

What level of Spanish do I need to have?

It is recommended that you have a sufficient level of Spanish that guarantee the communication with local people and the successful development of the program.

Why does Costa Rica need volunteers?

With 25% of the country being national parks and protected areas Costa Rica needs you to participate in a worldwide programme to protect rain forests and save various species of fauna and flora from extinction. Also you will be expected to provide day by day care and support for orphans, when assigned to health/social work project or feeding to animals, carry out general maintenance tasks or guide tourists.

Where in Costa Rica will I be based?

Heredia, San Jose, Santa Domingo de Heredia, Guanacaste, Cartago, Monteverde or Puntarenas.

Is there any benefit to me as a volunteer?

You will expand your vision and understanding of the world and its many different realities by volunteering in social, educational, environmental or restoration projects. You will gain self-confidence and acquire a different perspective on who you are and how other people perceive you. In sum, you will benefit from volunteering with us, both personally and professionally.

What are the different volunteer projects I can participate in?

There is variety of projects to choose from. For example you can engage yourself in helping and supporting for children, feeding and rescuing animals in danger, guiding tourists and etc.

How long can I work for as a volunteer?

Time of commitment may vary from 4 weeks to 6 months.

Where would I live?

Accommodation will be arranged by Global Choices prior to the candidate’s arrival. You have the option of staying either with a family (homestay) or in a residence with other volunteers and students.

Do I need any Vaccinations before my trip?

There is no specific requirement for vaccination but it is always advisable to get the necessary shots of hepatitis, tetanus and any other which your doctor might suggest.
