Who is eligible for a Working Holiday Visa?

To obtain a Working Holiday Visa you must:

  • be between 18 and 30 years old
  • hold a passport valid at least 36 months
  • intend to be on holiday in the UK
  • intend to take employment for a maximum of 12 months during your stay
  • intend to leave the UK after your trip
  • not intend to set up a business or be professional sportsperson in the UK
  • hold sufficient funds to support yourself while you are in the UK
  • not have been in the UK on a Working Holiday Visa before

Do I need a visa?

  • If you are an EU-citizen you do not need a visa.
  • If you are a non-EU-citizen you will travel under the youth mobility scheme and need a Working Holiday Visa.

When should I apply?

We accept applications all year round. We strongly advise to apply at least three months before your planned starting date. This gives you the time you need to obtain your visa and prepare conscientiously for your journey.

What kind of work will I get?

In accordance to the Working Holiday Visa our Easy Start UK programme offers positions that are mainly entry-level and semi-skilled. This ensures that candidates can start working immediately after their arrival in the UK.

Can I request a certain job?

You can tell us your preferred field of work, but we do not guarantee that our job offer will adhere to your preference. We provide jobs that enable you to earn enough money to set yourself up in the UK. You can then proceed to find a suitable job on the ever-changing job market in the UK on your own.

Do I get interview assistance or advice?

Yes. All our packages include advice on how to set up your CV and – even more important –how to present yourself in job interviews to ensure success in your application process.

Can I go with a friend or partner?

Yes. Going abroad alone can be a great experience, but going with someone you know might be even more satisfying. Share all those great moments with a beloved one!

What happens if I don’t want the offered job?

Sometimes it is not possible to provide a job that suits the applicant’s preference, but you might see it as an opportunity to earn money while you are looking for a job that suits you. You will need to make the decision if you want to take the offered job.

How long am I expected to work?

In your first position, you are usually expected to work for at least 12 weeks. Although this is not a law, it will generally help you settle in the UK to have a fixed job. Additionally, you can develop your skills and get a good reference for further applications at the end!

What are the working hours?

This depends on the job. Usually you will be working 37.5 hours a week, but almost all employers offer overtime hours. This is a great way to earn extra money that helps you settle in the UK!

How much will I earn?

The minimum wage in the UK is GBP 5.93 per hour. Pay rates usually start from GBP 6.00 and 6.50 per hour and go up to GBP 8.50 to 9.00 per hour for general jobs with some exceptions. Trades and skilled positions pay between GBP 9.00 and 15.00 per hour. Positions in sales and marketing that offer basic wage plus commission offer earning potential in excess of GBP 1000 per week, but there is no general rule.

What temperatures can I expect in the UK?

In the United Kingdom there is no wild fluctuation in temperature. You can expect summers to be pleasantly warm, but not too hot. In winter it may snow, but in large cities like London that is rarely the case. However, you should expect rainfall in autumn and winter.

Do I need travel insurance?

Although it is not a must, we strongly advise participants to be covered by travel insurance by Global Choices. Some eventualities are simply not covered by the reciprocal health care benefits between the UK and other countries.
